5 June 2008 – Environment Day
The Administration of the Măcin Mountains National Park has participated on 5 June 2008 in the action organized by the United Nations Development Program and by the United Nations Information Centre on the occasion of the International Environment Day.
The representative of the UN, Mr. Jan Sorensen, has been invited to this event.
Environmental problems have been highlighted, the necessity of changing our attitude and perception of the environment being especially underlined, for one needs to become aware that environmental changes are damaging.
On this occasion the members of the two administrations have got to know each other better, especially considering that both teams have a UNDP/GEF project in development.
Each of teams presented information about the park managing to draw interest to their area of origin. The team of the Administration of the Măcin Mountains National Park has presented the area from the viewpoint of biodiversity and culture. The promotion of the park has been supported by the presentation of informative materials themed "Protect the Tortoise of Dobrogea". During the first day the event took place at the Green Hours terrace and continued in the Carol Park during the second day.
The local customs neighboring the Măcin Mountains National Park have been presented through singing and dancing by the Mayor of Luncaviţa, Ştefan Ilie, and the Jeica – Cerna team, the winners of the "Traditions, People and Nature" competition organized by the administration of the natural park.
