World Environment day

 On the 5th June 2008, in Bucharest, MMNPA participated  in the  action organized by UNDP (the United Nations Development Programme) and  UNIC (the United Nations Information Centre) on the occasion of the World Environment Day.

Mr. Jan Sorensen, the UN representative in Romania was invited to take part, as well.

The agenda featured environmental issues such as deforestation, emphasizing on the need for a change in attitude and perception towards environment issues, through awareness raising, in terms of damage consequent to environment alterations.

On this occasion the staff of the two administration units had the opportunity each other better, much more that both teams are carrying out a UNDP/GEF project.

Each of the teams presented information on the park, doing well in attracting interest on their originating areas. The MMNPA team made a presentation of the zone in terms of biodiversity and culture. Promoting the park was sustained with information brochures related to “ Protect the Dobdrudja Turtle “ theme.

The first part of the event started at 11 AM at ‘Green Hours’ club and continued in Carol Park.

The traditions around the MMNP were featured through songs and dances by the advocacy of the Mayor of Luncavita Village. Mr. and  „Jeica” group from  Cerna vilalge, the winner of the annual contest, „Traditions, people and nature”, organize by the Park Administration.
