Climate

Climate in the MMNP is temperate-continental with influences of aridity, determined by the air flow circulation in east. Macin Mountains are characterized by a pronounced continental climate, with sub-Mediterranean influences in the higher zones and with obvious steppe characteristics in the southern part of the protected area. The climate is characterized by very hot and dry summers, long and dry autumns and cold winters with little snow.  The annual average temperature is 10-11°C, while the precipitations don’t exceed 500mm, both of them fitting between the extreme thermal and pluvial values in the country. Macin Mountains are among the most arid mountains in Romania. The precipitations decrease from north to south. Vegetation conditions are more favourable in the northern and central zones of the park, where precipitations are more abundant and there are forest zones. Southern and south-eastern zones (steppe zones) are characterized by reduced quantities of precipitations. Winds are frequent and predominate in north and north-east, without producing massive tree falls.
