Tourism

Macin Mountains have a special importance among the country’s mountains, being the oldest mountains in Romania. The special interest manifested by researchers is oriented towards archaeological excavations (due to the numerous historical discoveries) but also in an equal measure to other domains of scientific research – geology, botany, zoology.

In his work entitled “Macin Mountains” (published in 1987), Mihail Gabriel Albotă states even from the beginning: „Up to the present, tourism is scarcely practised in Macin Mountains, for they are situated far away from the Carpathian chain, isolated in the shadow of the famous Danube Delta. This is why (...) we are trying to demonstrate that denying the touristic value of the Dobrudjan Mountains (...) is similar to ignoring the the beauties that they offer to all nature lovers.”. Cited by the same author in the same work, Ion Conea makes a memorable presentation of Pricopan Crest, outlining the landscape and geological importance of Macin Mountains: „Pricopan is one of the wildest and worth seeing mountains in the whole Romania. (...) It is unique in its own way among all the mountains in the country: an avalanche of huge granite blocks fallen from the sky and crammed one into another. For – in fact – Pricopan  (...)is the root of a mountain that used to live as a whole, hundreds of millions of years ago.”
